Live Artfully

What does it mean to live a creatively fruitful life? In speaking of creativity, not only what’s  based on tangible skills, but of any act, that connects our mind on a deeper level and engages us to explore with joyful curiosity. We often limit the idea of creatives as those who hold a natural trait in artistic expression or thought, but  you don't need to ‘be’ an artist to tap into an artistic life, it is in fact something we can all share.

It was never my intention to pursue a career as an artist. I have always had an obvious desire to utilize my artistic skills and expected that would play a role in whatever ‘job’ I followed into, but a path of self employment was not one I inherently planned to take. Nonetheless, as I continued year after year in search for the right fit, waiting for the right opportunity to take off, I found the boundaries of art, life, and work becoming increasingly more blurred. There were periods where my creative tendencies had to be ignored, as life goes other priorities took its place, but it was always something I came back to. I can say however that some of the moments I’ve felt the most engaged, the most certain of my identity, was when I was standing in front of a canvas, and allowing myself that outlet gave me momentum. It’s easy to fall into complacency, but when we are stripped of the ‘excess’ of the everyday, we are faced with the truths of what matters.

I use myself as an example to show what it means to open yourself to that possibility. The possibility to have awareness of our passions and allow them to exist in our everyday, without excuse of consequence. When you allow yourself the time and space to nourish your own creative outlet, the payoff can be limitless. The perfect time and perfect circumstance do not exist. Tapping into your passion and giving yourself the practice to explore your own depths is self care for the soul. Art is all around us, and it’s worth can be much more than an object. The experience of creating, the experience of observation, and the experience of reflection is a continuous cycle, and bringing that experience into life can bring all its abundance. This is how we can live artfully, and continue the joys and discovery of a truly creative existence in harmony.

“ we use a mirror to see our face, we use art to see the soul”
